The Etana Fund to Stop Cruelty Against Animals
Every day at the Pennsylvania SPCA, we see tragic illustrations of the extent to which people abuse and neglect animals. Etana was the victim of such abuse. She is a little boxer-mix who was brutally beaten and then set on fire in West Philadelphia in August 2008. Through the loving care of our top-notch veterinary team, Etana survived her horrible ordeal and has been adopted into her forever-home.

The Pennsylvania SPCA is also investigating the criminals who attacked her and will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Unfortunately, Etana isn’t alone in her abuse. Officers of the Pennsylvania SPCA Humane Law Enforcement department investigate an average of 17 cases of cruelty and neglect a day. With your support, animals like Etana can be rescued, rehabilitated and adopted into caring homes.

The Etana Fund to Stop Cruelty Against Animals will be used to prevent and prosecute abuse and neglect. Etana’s legacy will be one of hope and change.

The Kofte Fund for Clinical Care
Each year, tens of thousands of animals come through the PSPCA’s clinics each year. These animals are treated for problems ranging from broken legs to pneumonia, and sadly, injuries inflicted by people. Many come to us with long-term illnesses that require special care. Unfortunately, owners are sometimes unable to afford the cost of treatment for such illnesses.

No one should ever have to choose between food for their family and medical treatment for their companion animal. Through the Kofte Fund for Clinical Care, we are able to help qualifying low-income pet owners provide quality treatment for their ill or injured pets that they would otherwise be unable to afford. The Kofte Fund will also help pay for medical interventions for stray animals who have no one to provide for their care. The Kofte Fund for Clinical Care was established by longtime Pennsylvania SPCA member, Harriette Stein, in honor of her dog Kofte's 10th birthday.

The Tiger Ranch Emergency Fund
In March 2008, PSPCA law enforcement officers rescued over two hundred and fifty cats from the Tiger Ranch Animal Sanctuary in Tarentum, PA. Tiger Ranch Animal Sanctuary promised a safe haven and eventual adoption for unwanted cats from across the country. In fact, these animals were living in horrible conditions; many were sick, starving and dying.. The rescued cats are currently recovering nicely at the Clarion County Humane Society, and all cats are in stable condition.

Linda Bruno, owner of Tiger Ranch, was charged with 574 counts of cruelty to animals. Though she was ordered to stand trial on January 20, 2009, a continuance was filed and accepted by the court, making the eventual start date of the trial July 13, 2009. This has further delayed the PSPCA's ability to find new homes for the now-healthy cats.

The Tiger Ranch Emergency Fund exists to continue to care for the cats rescued from Tiger Ranch Animal Sanctuary, and to eventually find each rehabilitated cat a loving forever-home.

The Safe Haven Fund
The Safe Haven Fund provides for no-cost care for animals whose owners are temporarily or indefinitely unable to care for them due to extraordinary circumstances such as domestic abuse, fires, natural disasters, or extended military service. Often, victims of domestic abuse are reluctant to leave their abusive partner because they fear for their companion animal’s welfare in their absence. In addition, animals are not allowed in shelters that care for victims of domestic abuse and their children. The Pennsylvania SPCA will pick up and care for animals belonging to victims of these unfortunate circumstances at no cost to the owner.

The Safe Haven Fund provides extended or indefinite, no-cost shelter, food, and medical care for animals whose owners can no longer care for them due to unfortunate, circumstances.

Puppy Mill Fund
The Pennsylvania SPCA's Puppy Mill Fund:
Ending the cycle of abuse

The Pennsylvania SPCA's Puppy Mill Fund was established to abolish cruelty and abuse in the industrialized dog breeding kennels known as "puppy mills." The Fund will promote the reporting of cruelty and abuse in kennels to the Pennsylvania SPCA's cruelty reporting hotline (1-866-601-SPCA), fund a branch of the Humane Law Enforcement Department that will focus solely on undercover investigations and arrests of abusive kennel operators, and encourage the abolition of puppy mills initiatives aimed at the pet stores who support puppy mills.

The Pennsylvania SPCA’s Law Enforcement Officers respond to reports from the public and humane organizations, as well as perform investigations, seizures, prosecution and closures of industrialized dog kennels. A significant public awareness initiative will be launched, educating the public about the horrors of puppy mills, and encouraging the boycotting of pet stores that sell puppies bred at puppy mills. All dogs rescued from puppy mills and pet stores by the Pennsylvania SPCA are guaranteed immediate medical treatment and behavior rehabilitation and will be placed into loving adoptive homes. The Puppy Mill Fund will finance the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for operating Pennsylvania’s puppy mills, as well as the rescue, treatment and rehabilitation of the animals affected.
