“Leaving a gift in my will to the Pennsylvania SPCA is an easy way for me to help animals find safe, loving homes even after I am gone.” - 1867 Society Member

The Future Matters

The Pennsylvania SPCA has been providing shelter, medical care and forever homes for the region’s most vulnerable animal population for more than 140 years. Now you can ensure generations of dogs, cats, horses and other animals will be provided for in the years to come. When you create a legacy with the Pennsylvania SPCA, you guarantee the welfare of future animals, while often reducing your current or future tax burden and meeting your own personal and financial objectives.

Your Gift can Help Animals like Rocco

Rocco arrived at the Pennsylvania SPCA severely emaciated and frightened. Despite the terrible neglect he suffered, he was kind and gentle to those around him. Rocco was placed into foster care and quickly adopted. Today he is part of a loving forever family and back to a healthy weight. Rocco reminds us of the vital role the Pennsylvania SPCA serves in providing care and comfort for our most vulnerable animals, today and in the future.

Bequests

A charitable bequest to the Pennsylvania SPCA in your will is a simple yet effective way of generously providing for the Pennsylvania SPCA while holding assets throughout your lifetime. Having a valid will can ensure that your intentions for your descendents will be carried out and your tradition of philanthropy will continue. There are several types of revocable bequests that you can discuss with your attorney or financial advisor when drafting your will.

Charitable Trusts

Several options exist for you to place your assets into a charitable trust. A trust can provide income for life or a specific term of years and has the potential to turn low-yielding assets into more income. You can also receive an income tax deduction and save on capital gains taxes. Existing trusts can be modified through amendments handled by your attorney. Your financial planner can discuss trusts with you to find an option that will best suit your financial and charitable needs.

Life Insurance

Gifts of life insurance policies are another way to provide for the Pennsylvania SPCA’s future. For a new or existing life insurance policy, you can transfer ownership to the Pennsylvania SPCA, which can offer you even greater tax advantages. You can also choose to make the Pennsylvania SPCA the beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of your life insurance policy.

Retirement Plans

Your 401(k) and Roth IRA retirement plans can be used as a simple and generous way to make a gift to the Pennsylvania SPCA. Oftentimes, these assets are set aside for heirs, but the little known fact is that the funds may be taxed heavily and often do not provide the intended benefit amount to your decedents. You can transfer your IRA to the Pennsylvania SPCA and face fewer or no tax consequences.

Donor-Advised Funds

These charitable giving vehicles enable you to work with a third party administrator who manages your charitable donations, while you enjoy considerable tax advantages, including an immediate charitable deduction in the year the gift to the fund is made. You are the fund’s advisor and may recommend charitable gifts to the Pennsylvania SPCA and other charities each year.
