Thanks to information provided by concerned citizens, the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Department was able t identify the owner of a horse abandoned on a vacant lot on the 3500 Block of Ella Street on Nov. 27.
The Pennsylvania SPCA had a received a call from a concerned citizen when the horse suddenly showed up in the weed and trash strewn lot. According to George Bengal, director of humane law enforcement, the white, Arabian-type horse, was in poor condition. “The horse was underweight and appeared to be malnourished. It also had a large infected wound beneath its right elbow,” said Bengal. “When our officers responded, no one came forward to claim the horse. The horse was brought back the Pennsylvania SPCA headquarters where it was received veterinary care before it was adopted to a new loving owner with experience in proper care of horses. The previous owner was charged with animal cruelty.
