BISSELL PET FOUNDATION TO PAY ALL ADOPTION FEES AT PENNSYLVANIA SPCA’S PHILADELPHIA & LANCASTER CENTERS
Free adoption event will help Philadelphia and Lancaster area homeless pets find forever homes on November 12
Philadelphia, PA (November 8, 2017) — BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) announces its next EMPTY THE SHELTERS free adoption event will be held at the Pennsylvania SPCA(PSPCA) Centers in Philadelphia and Lancaster, PA. The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based nonprofit will pay all adoption fees on Sunday, November 12. Participating locations include: PSPCA Headquarters (350 E. Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, 10am-5pm); Fishtown Center (1546 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, 12-5pm); PSPCA Center in Lancaster (848 S. Prince Street, Lancaster, PA, 12-6pm).
Over 100 pets are expected to be available for adoption on November 12 across the three participating locations. PSPCA will partner with other animal welfare groups to help fill the empty spaces after the event. More than 9,000 cats and dogs have found loving homes through EMPTY THE SHELTERS in the last 17 months.
In addition to the adoption event, PSECU will present a $500 check to the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Lancaster Center at 1pm. The Pennsylvania SPCA won the PSECU’s Gives Back contest in August. The Lancaster Center will also have refreshments and invite the community in to visit.
“By paying adoption fees, BISSELL Pet Foundation brings awareness for adoption,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “PSPCA will follow its standard application procedures to ensure pets go to the right homes. We want everyone to experience the joy of giving a pet a second chance at life.”
Nationwide, approximately 2.7 million pets are euthanized yearly because they are unable to find homes. EMPTY THE SHELTERS combats this problem by increasing adoption rates. From previous ETS events, 52% of adopters were first-time adopters and 99.4% of adopters have already or plan to recommend adoption to their friends/family.
Families that adopt on November 12 will be required to pay licensing fees for their pet – costs may vary by county. Families will also need to bring a photo ID, proof of address, and proof of current pet’s vaccinations. Children and/or other dogs in the household will be required to attend as well for a meet and greet. BPF will thank families for choosing adoption by providing a leash for dogs, a collar for cats and valuable wellness information and coupons for new pet owners.
PSPCA will be adhering to their standard adoption requirements for the event and adopters are encouraged to review those requirements prior to November 12 by visiting pspca.org/adoptions/process/. For more information about EMPTY THE SHELTER, please visit www.bissellpetfoundation.org/ets
