Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia! Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and help us build our capacity to save more lives.
For individuals 18 and older wanting to volunteer at one of our Philadelphia locations, please follow our step by step process below. We apologize for the inconvenience, but do not currently have a program for individuals under the age of 18.
Step 1: Complete an application.
The Philadelphia Volunteer Application takes approximately 15-20 to complete. This application helps our staff understand your passions and skills in order to find the best fit for you at our organization. Please make sure you indicate in the PSPCA Shelter Location if you are interested in volunteering at our Erie Shelter, Fishtown Shelter, or both locations.
Once we review your application, we will follow up with you via email with next steps in the volunteer process. The review process for your application can take up to a week once submitted.
Please note that incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Step 2: Schedule and attend a Volunteer Orientation
Once you application is reviewed and accepted, you will be invited to attend an upcoming Volunteer Orientation at Erie Avenue. Our Volunteer Orientation is an interactive learning experience where you get to learn about the volunteer opportunities the PSPCA has to offer, as well as spend some time with our animal residents!
Please note that all volunteer orientations for Philadelphia volunteers take place at our main headquarters on Erie Avenue.
Step 3: Schedule and attend Shelter Essentials and Animal Handling Trainings
Once you complete Volunteer Orientation, you will be invited to schedule shelter essentials training and animal handling classes for our canine and feline residents. Based on your interests, we can also get you set up to attend department-specific trainings to specialize in those areas of our shelter.
