For individuals 18 years and older interested in volunteering at our Philadelphia location on Erie Avenue, we have the following process:
Step 1: Attend an Open House.
Open Houses are hour-long introductions to our organization and include a tour of our property. We encourage interested individuals to attend an Open House to learn more about our programming and how you can help. RSVP to an Open House today!
Step 2: Complete an application.
After attending an Open House, you will be invited to complete our volunteer application. The application takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and helps our staff understand your passions and skills in order to find the best fit for you at our organization.
Step 3: Schedule and attend Shelter Essentials Training.
Following the acceptance of your application, you will be invited to schedule Shelter Essentials training hours. These hours take place with Volunteer Ambassadors, veteran volunteers who teach you the ropes. During this time, you will also meet with the Manager of Volunteer Programs to determine your individualized volunteer path at our organization.
Step 4: Schedule and attend Animal Handling/Department-Specific Trainings.
Once you complete your Shelter Essentials Training, you will be invited to schedule handling classes for our canine and feline residents. Based on your interests, you may also be invited to attend department-specific trainings to specialize in those areas of our Shelter.
**We apologize for the inconvenience, but we do not currently have a program for individuals under the age of 18.
