When we shared Beans' plight earlier this week, there was another tragic part of the story that we couldn't yet tell you about. Beans' housemate Pompei, a miniature poodle, was also subjected to unspeakable cruelty.
Pompei had a painful ligature mark encircling her muzzle, a complete fracture to one of her hind legs, and a broken pelvis. Hemorrhaging of her eye suggested either strangulation or she was the victim of blunt force trauma.
While Beans did not appear to have experienced the same physical force as Pompei, his trauma was impossible to miss. Found emaciated, his body condition score was 1/9, the lowest possible for a living dog.
Yesterday, just days after the rescue, two individuals were charged and arrested for the abuse of Pompei and Beans. Each person faces three counts of animal cruelty, including felony charges for torture.
Beans and Pompei have a long road to recovery. Every donation, regardless of amount, will truly have a meaningful impact on the lives of these brave dogs and the other victims of cruelty treated in our hospitals.
Please keep Beans and Pompei in your hearts as we do everything possible to help them recover.
