Preventing cruelty starts with education
Our Humane Education team’s innovative approach helps Philadelphia’s youth develop compassion and empathy, fostering solutions that decrease both animal cruelty and interpersonal violence.
Shelter Tours
Go behind the scenes at our Erie Avenue headquarters for a hands-on, two-hour experience that brings animal welfare to life. Groups of 8-20 students (grades 3+) tour the shelter, meet animals in our care, and participate in guided activities that build empathy and understanding. All tours are free, with one chaperone required per ten students.
Programming
We bring the PSPCA to your classroom. Our free presentations are designed for grades 3 and up, with topics tailored to your curriculum goals from responsible pet ownership to the role of animal law enforcement in Pennsylvania. Each session is interactive and age-appropriate, and our team works directly with teachers to make sure the content fits.
Internships
A limited number of internship spots are available for Philadelphia high school students looking for real-world experience in animal welfare. Interns work alongside PSPCA staff across departments, gaining exposure to veterinary care, shelter operations, and community outreach. Teachers and school staff can reach out to education@pspca.org.
