Xena

INVISIBLE….that's how I feel. I know I can't compete with the shaggy Benjis, the regal German Shepherds, the trendy Cavaliers, the fashionable poodles, or the fluffy Doodles. Even my all white coat convinces people that I am just "plain vanilla". I was picked up as a stray & no one ever claimed me. No one has ever wanted me. No one has ever realized that I am loyal, trusting, undemanding, affectionate, & appreciative of even the smallest kind gesture. But wait! Who is this couple standing in front of my kennel run? Do they want to spend time with ME? I wait patiently while the man leashes me up. My kennel card says that I am "shy" with new people. But 30 seconds after he pats me & gives me some yummy treats, I like him & trust him. I walk nicely on leash to the couple's car & I hop right in. I stretch out onto the soft blanket while they pat me & I quickly doze off, loving the peace & quiet away from the kennel. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. We stop for a pup cup & I'm in ecstasy. After a nice long ride, we head back to MLAR where the couple promises me that we will do the same thing next week. I feel as though I have won the lottery! I lick their hands & give a few wet kisses. Somehow, deep down inside, I still have hope that there is a kind family that will want me forever – people who can appreciate what an easy keeper I am, how well behaved & easy going I am, how much affection I have to give, & how I love to receive it in return. And I am open to meeting another dog, if you have one. My needs are pretty simple: a soft bed to relax on, a few rolls in the grass, some belly rubs, an occasional walk, & lots of affection! Nothing fancy…just plain vanilla.
